About the artist:
Maya Yadid is a multidisciplinary artist based in New York. Her works combine ceramic and mixed materials, archival research, social interventions and food. Yadid explores ideas of collective and subjective memory, through her personal history as a third generation Jewish-Israeli of Yemenite and Turkish descent who immigrated to the U.S. For Hayom she created Judaica ceramics that are inspired by the action of kneading the challah bread, a tradition passed from generations in many Jewish families. By handling the clay roughly, as if it was the delicious Shabbat dough, she creates Judaica objects that are deprived of any straight line, echoing diasporic histories and paths.
