In the digital era, as the distinction between original and copy begins to disappear, Gabriel de la Mora has submerged himself obsessively in the illegal economy of art in order to obtain the raw material of one of his recent projects: apocryphal works which he subjects to an aggressive process of regeneration focused on restoring the principle of authenticity. He caries this task out by means of an aesthetics of violence, blending the contributions of avant-garde iconoclasm, minimalist asepsis and conceptual craftiness; a reflexive experiment that wedges a margin of tension between authorial legitimacy and fraud, and even more so between sensory experience, refinement and abjection. By orienting us toward the flourishing industry of fakes, the artist exposes both the instability of art institutions and the very concept of creation.
