Excerpt from the editor Fernando Ticoulat:
"20 in 2020, the Artists of the Next Decade Latin America brings together 20 Latin American artists who we believe will redefine the artistic and cultural horizon in the decade to come. They are not the only ones. For every artist that was invited to participate in this book, several others were passed over. But curation is selection, and selection is exclusion. To face this challenge we opened up a dialogue with a variety of critics, curators, artists, and gallery owners to discover, from each of them, who might be those artists that we were seeking. An exercise less and less in vogue, we talked a lot and distributed the authority of choice. In a continuous dialogue with our peers, we formed the body of the book, a plurality of songs, voices and accents."
Review by Gerardo Mozquera: "The twenty emerging artists, carefully selected by the editors, herald the scandalous diversity of contemporary art in Latin America and reject any exercise in totalization."
