About the project:

MUSEUMS LEAGUE is a project designed by Maurizio Cattelan for museums and galleries around the world. It consists of a custom scarf inspired by football team scarves. This extra-long, fringed acrylic scarf is woven with the words “INDEPENDENT CURATORS” and includes the year of ICI’s founding, 1975.

Controversial and wildly popular, Maurizio Cattelan’s work lampoons icons and societal conventions, as serious in their implicit critiques as in their humorous irreverence. Cattelan has seen his works exhibited at the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Biennial as well as at numerous institutions, including Centre Georges Pompidou, the Tate Gallery, and the Museum of Modern Art.

About ICI:

Independent Curators International (ICI) is a unique arts organization that focuses on the role of the curator in contemporary art. We believe that curators create more than exhibitions — they are arts community leaders and organizers who champion artistic practice; build essential infrastructures, such as art spaces and institutions; and generate public engagement with art. Curators are, therefore, uniquely positioned to have an important impact on the artistic field, and on the communities they serve.
